Description: Department: Refugee Services Supervisor: Director of Refugee Services Classification: Exempt/Full-time BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Identify, develop and maintain new employment opportunities for refugees. Create relationships with area employers that are interested in hiring refugees in order to increase employment placements. Oversee and monitor RS employment department as well as contract performance for existing state employment contracts. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Coordinate, monitor and evaluate the employment program for Refugee Services. 2.Develop a “marketing strategy” to target potential employers and to promote them hiring refugees. 3.Develop and maintain a database with potential and current employers. 4.Working with Refugee Services staff, identify clients eligible for employment services. 5.Develop and maintain relationships with employers willing to employ refugees. 6.Supervise employment staff throughout the employment process, including arranging job interviews for clients and providing transportation to interviews as needed. 7.Work with R&P staff and RCA staff to coordinate employment activities. 8.Develop and coordinate employment program staff training. 9.Ensure program compliance and contract requirements including case files and reporting. 10.Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills: REQUIREMENTS: 1.Bachelor’s Degree. 2.Minimum of two (2) years experience in related social/ community services work in the employment area or working with an employment agency. 3.Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. 4.Must be energetic and a self motivated team player. 5.Knowledge of Houston job market is required. 6.General knowledge of public employment. 7.Understanding and awareness of the needs of individuals who face barriers to employment. 8.Understanding of techniques for developing jobs in the public and private sectors. 9.Proficient computer skills including word processing. 10.Strong written and verbal communication skills. 11.High degree of independent judgment, flexibility and problem solving skills. 12.Must enjoy working with culturally and ethnically diverse staff, clients and volunteers. 13.Must be able to work a flexible schedule. 14.Must have an automobile, valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance.
