Description: The Communications Specialist reports to the Communications Director and helps to promote a positive public image of the College and maintain maximum contact with its internal and external constituencies. Duties include the full range of communications and media relationship functions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Participate as a member of the Institutional Advancement team by adhering to the College’s values, mission and objectives, promoting brand awareness. 2. Manage various social media pages, including Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Includes developing new materials such as videos, photos and articles for distribution to media sites. 3. Help monitor new media technology to keep the College current in its communication and promotional efforts. 4. Write the College’s weekly publication and assist in the expansion of the publication to an online edition. Assist in the preparation of the College’s magazine, annual report and other communications products. 5. Prepare articles for submission to external publications that promote awareness and a positive image for the College. 6. Assist with the College’s computerized contact management system and the mailing process of office communications and publications items. 7. Assist in the productions of the college’s annual homecoming convention, gala and other special events of the Institutional Advancement office. 8. Other assigned duties that further the Office of Institutional Advancement function.
Skills: Bachelor’s degree preferred or three years business experience with social media, graphic design, interviewing and writing articles and the ability to think conceptually. Good command of the English language, computer proficiency, including proficiency with communications and graphics software products, ability to organize, prioritize and effectively manage a variety of tasks at the same time, and function within a sometimes unstructured environment. Professional appearance, positive attitude and the ability to convey interest in and pleasure with the general public are of primary importance.
