POSITION SUMMARY:
The Parent Educator provides the information, support and encouragement that parents need to help their child develop optimally during pregnancy and from birth up to school-aged. The education may be provided through personal visits in the home or a location chosen by the parents or in parenting classes/workshops. The Parent Educator will be responsible to conduct separate parent group meetings, developmental screenings of the children and provide linkages to resources for families participating in the Parents as Teachers in-home visitation program.
DUTIES:
•Responsible for one-on-one, in-home parent education and group meetings through the Parents as Teachers research-based programming
•Administer developmental screenings with the participating parent(s) and child
•Recruit families to participate in the Parents as Teachers program
•Coordinate and facilitate family group meetings
•Provide parenting classes/seminars as requested and in accordance with department goals and priorities
•Participate in agency and department staff meetings and other CC community events

Skills: |
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field from accredited institution;
•Minimum one year experience working in a human services or teaching position;
•Successfully complete the Parents as Teachers certification as a Parent Educator or already received certification;
•Successfully complete Practical Parent Education certification or already received certification;
•Knowledge of child development;
•Communicate ideas and information clearly and completely;
•Dedicated customer service orientation and exchanges with clients and staff ;
•Willingness to work on periodic evenings and weekends (work schedule is adjusted in a given work week to allow for these hours);
•Experience in training parents and knowledge of training methods/techniques and adult learning theory preferred;
•Ability to use personal computer and software packages (Windows, Word and Excel).
•Bilingual in English and Spanish an asset;
•Own transportation for personal visits in the community and valid Texas State Driver’s License.
•Employment requires successful completion of a criminal background check
